A local shoe repair business is standing tall after an American flag was vandalized outside their store.

The flag outside of McGraw's Shoe Repair was vandalized when cigarette holes appeared to be burned into it.

After hearing about the story on NewsChannel 7, members of the community reached out, eventually reaching all the way to the capitol and to the offices of Congressman Neal Dunn.

The congressman presented McGraw's with a new flag. That new flag had just flown over the United States Capitol.

Brent Carter, the owner of McGraw's Shoe Repair said, "We're just ecstatic, just very surprised at the outreach we've gotten from the community. We knew it was a big deal but we couldn't have imagined what's become of it."

Carter says that they plan to frame the flag from the Capitol and hang a different one outside their store.
