Dr. Neal Dunn was raised in an Army family, calling more than 20 places home before attending college. An Eagle Scout, he earned his undergraduate degree from Washington and Lee University before attending medical school at George Washington University. Following medical school, he continued his family’s tradition of service by joining the U.S. Army as a surgeon and completed his residency at Walter Reed Army Medical Center. During his 15 years in the Army, Dr. Dunn served around the world.
After his military service, Dr. Dunn and his wife, Leah, settled in Bay County, Florida, where he practiced medicine for 25 years, specializing in urology. He was the founding president of the Advanced Urology Institute, a 50-physician practice with more than 400 employees and offices across Florida.
Dr. Dunn has long been active in his community and the medical profession. He served for 18 years on the Board of Governors of the Florida Medical Association and chaired its Council on Legislation. He also served as Chief of Staff at Gulf Coast Hospital and as Director of the Bay Medical Center–Sacred Heart Joint Venture. In addition, he was the founding Chairman of Summit Bank, a regional bank headquartered in Panama City with branches throughout Northwest Florida. Prior to his election to Congress in 2016, Dr. Dunn served on the Board of Directors of Space Florida which operates the space launch complexes and numerous research, assembly, and support facilities on Cape Canaveral. He also served as a Director of Enterprise Florida, the state's economic development agency.
In Congress, Dr. Dunn serves as Vice Chair of the House Committee on Energy and Commerce, the oldest standing legislative committee in the House of Representatives, with jurisdiction over issues critical to the nation’s economy, including energy, technology, and health care. He also serves on the Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, and the House Democracy Partnership.
Dr. Dunn and Leah reside in Panama City, Florida.
