TALLAHASSEE, FL – Today, Congressman Neal Dunn (Florida-02) released the following statement after the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) announced that the President had granted a Major Disaster Declaration for the State of Florida, triggering the release of federal funds to help individuals and communities recover from severe storms, straight-line winds, and Tornadoes that occurred on May 10, 2024.

“I’m pleased to report that a Major Disaster Declaration has been issued in the wake of last month’s severe storms in North Florida,” said Congressman Dunn. “This federal assistance will help expedite the recovery process and give Floridians the resources they need to rebuild. I’m grateful to the Administration for responding to my request for assistance and am pleased my office and I could deliver these results by urging the federal government to act.”

On May 24, Congressman Dunn sent a letter to President Biden in support of Governor Ron DeSantis’ request for a Major Disaster Declaration in response to the May 10 storms. The letter requested Public Assistance for impacted counties, including Baker, Gadsden, Hamilton, Lafayette, Leon, Liberty, Madison, Suwanee, Taylor, and Wakulla counties, as well as Individual Assistance for residents of Leon County. FEMA’s recent announcement made all requested assistance available to counties and individuals. Read the letter to President Biden here.
