WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, Congressman Neal Dunn, M.D. released a statement following President Donald Trump’s U.S. Supreme Court nomination announcement.

“I commend President Trump on his timely and thoughtful U.S. Supreme Court nomination. Amy Coney Barrett has a strong record in protecting the right to life and our Constitution. I’m confident that we will see great things come from her during her time as a Supreme Court Justice.

Filling this seat prior to the election is the right choice. Our President has a duty to nominate Justices to fill vacant seats and our Senate has a duty to confirm qualified candidates for appointment. They must fulfill these duties every year, including in an election year. In the past, American Presidents nominated Supreme Court Justices during an election year twenty-nine times. Twenty-two of the forty-four men to previously hold the office faced this situation, and all twenty-two made the decision to send up a nomination, whether or not they had the votes in the Senate. I trust that the Senate will make the right decision and approve President Trump’s nomination.”
